Triple Threat to Tackle Local Meet

Ballymore is set to produce three runners at Matamata’s local meeting on Wednesday and Sororia will be hoping to go one better than her previous outing as she lines up in the BDC Paints Ltd maiden 3YO event over 1400m.

Two runner up efforts from only three career outings to date gives the team high hopes heading into Wednesday’s event, and the rain affected surface won’t be an issue for the three-year-old daughter of Iffraaj.

“She’s improved since her last race and I think she is the one to beat on Wednesday, despite drawing the widest gate,” said co-trainer Chad Ormsby.

“There’s a lot to like about this filly and she’s a progressive type. Once she steps up to a mile she will be right in her element.”

One of the more interesting runners of the trio is the juvenile debutant Makarios who will contest the Sacred Falls at Waikato Stud 2YO event over 1200m.

Pleased with his first trials efforts last month at Ellerslie, the handsome son of promising young sire Makfi is fit and ready to go and will have the services of senior rider Craig Grylls in the saddle.

“We are looking forward to getting a line on where this horse is at and if she can produce the ability he has shown at the track I believe he will be competitive,” Ormsby said.

“I don’t believe he is a genuine Heavy track type of horse, although he has shown he gets through the ground well enough. He’s a nice 3YO in the making.”

The third of the trio is Unknown Pleasures who produced a lack luster performance at her last outing at Ruakaka and will look to make amends for Wednesday.

“She was really disappointing last start and there was nothing really obvious we can put it down to.”

“She’s going as well as she ever has, and Trudy (Thornton) made comment she felt superb and thought she was on a winner approaching the bend at Ruakaka.”

“We don’t want to see the track venture into the heavy range, so if it’s too wet we will likely look for another option.”
