Ballymore heads to Warrnambool

It is the first week in May which means one thing to Victorian racing fans - it is time to head to Warrnambool!

Having won the Warrnambool Cup with a stable favourite in Sarrera (pictured) back in 2007, the carnival has always been a favourite time for Ballymore and we are looking

forward to cheering on four nice horses this week.

Tough and talented mare Zazparella is the first of our Warrnambool runners, due to take her place in the eighth event on Tuesday - the George Taylor Memorial Showcase.

Whilst she has drawn out wide in barrier 15, Zazparella does, says Michael Moroney "have a lot going for her."

"She was pretty luckless along the rails last start and she is a mare who needs to get into a rhythm - she was just held up at the wrong stage."

"She has drawn out but she should get a clear run and with a bit of luck can prove hard to beat - especially if it happens to rain a bit beforehand."

Same goes for our other Tuesday runner Devonshire Duke who also races best with the sting out of the ground.

Racing in the City Of Warrnambool Handicap, the consistent six-year-old has been in good form and with a good draw - barrier one - and the claim of Dylan Dunn - he looks nicely placed.

"It looks the right race for him," Moroney said.

Black Tomahawk is our sole Wednesday runner, the Duncan's Liquor Showcase contender having his first run since the spring.

"The 1400m may prove a bit short for him but he looks terrific," Moroney enthused - "and I am confident that he is in for a good campaign."

"He is well drawn (barrier two) for Glen Boss and it will be no surprise to see him prove competitive."

Warrnambool's final day sees Savvy Dancer line up in the Neville Wilson Series Final. Having only his second run this preparation, he may find "a few others a bit too sharp" with Moroney noting that "he is a chubby type who usually needs racing to get to his best form."

We also have one NSW runner this week, Surpass lining up in a 1600m event at Warwick Farm on Wednesday having missed out a run when the Hawkesbury meeting was abandoned last Saturday.

"It was a shame as I think he would've handled the heavy conditions a lot better than others," Moroney rued.

"The mile may prove a bit short for him on a drier track but he is a chance because he always tries hard."
