Wednesday Racing at Sandown

 

The stable heads to Sandown with three nice chances on Wednesday - our trio of Deckhand, Slinky Veeness (pictured) and Our Valdivia contesting consecutive races later in the day.

Taking his placed in the sixth event, the Sportingbet Handicap, Deckhand was impressive saluting at Kilmore late last year and we have been pleased with his progress since.

"He has trained on well since that strong win," Anthony Feroce reported "and the extra distance should not pose a problem for him."

A consistent galloper who has always promised to measure up to metropolitan level, the son of Darci Brahma should run his usual honest race.

"We expect him to run well," Feroce said.

Gaining a run as second emergency in the Bushnell Handicap over 1200m, Slinky Veeness is having her first run since last winter.

The lightly raced daughter of Guillotine showed plenty of potential during her debut campaign, kicking off her career with an easy maiden victory at Cranbourne last May.

"She is a stronger horse this time in," said Feroce, "and from a good draw she should run a forward race."

The final race of the day is the Le Pines Handicap and we have Our Valdivia sticking to 1400m after a dominant victory over the same trip at Sale on Christmas Eve.

"He has trained on from that good win but a slight concern is his wide draw this time," Feroce said.

"He is a horse who needs cover - if he does get it he should prove competitive again."
