FEATURE RACE RUNNERS AT CAULFIELD

Feature race runners for us on a Group 1 day at Caulfield.

Chapada, Harlech and She’s A Thief run late in the day with Chapada the first to go in race seven, the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes over 2000m with Daniel Stackhouse to ride.

Chapada is resuming after a winter campaign however, Mike Moroney has worked on keeping the gelding stimulated.

“I’m happy with him, he had a bit of time in the paddock and we’ve kept him mentally fresh with some dressage work,” Moroney said.

“I expect him to run really well, he’ll need a bit of luck from the barrier. There doesn’t look to be a lot of early speed in the race but whenever you think that everyone wants to go forward.

“There are a lot of horses in the race like us aiming for Cup races later on but with ordinary luck I’m sure he will run well.”

Harlech (pictured) makes his Australian debut in race eight, the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m and drawn barrier nine under Michael Dee.

“He’s settled in lovely, he’s been working and jumping out well and I’m happy with him,” Moroney said.

“He’s drawn ok in what looks a race with plenty of speed in it so it would be nice to see him settle just behind the speed.

“For a horse of his quality I think he’s well in on the minimum and if he runs up to his jumpouts I think he will be hard to beat.”

She’s A Thief is in the last race, the How Now Stakes over 1200m and she too has had a freshen up.

“I think she’s getting some favours at the weights,” Moroney said. “She’s been to the farm for a freshen, some dressage work and she’s a fit and happy mare.

“We’ll ride her the same way and she’ll put herself in it and she should be in the finish.”
