MARES DAY ON WEDNESDAY

Nerve Not Verve and Opoho Dreaming will represent us at the Bendigo metropolitan meeting today.

Opoho Dreaming is the first to go in race three, the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1600m to be ridden by Jordan Childs from barrier seven.

The Tavistock mare finished unplaced on a heavy track at Sandown last start and Mike Moroney is looking forward to testing her on the good track today.

“She was taking a big rise in class last time after winning her Maiden but we didn’t have too much choice last start,” Moroney said.

“Today is not necessarily any easier with six last start winners in the race but she’s fit and drawn to get a nice run.

“She won on a heavy track but I do think she will be better suited on a firmer track so it will give us a better idea where she sits today.”

Nerve Not Verve (pictured) is in race seven, the Benchmark 70 Fillies and Mares Handicap over 1300m with Lachlan King in the saddle and jumping barrier three after scratchings.

It is the first start this preparation for the five-year-old which finished second last time out in the Centaurea Stakes at Listed level over 2030m at Morphettville in May.

“The distance is possibly on the short side for her but she’s fresh and will put herself on speed,” Moroney said.

“I’m extremely happy with her condition - she’s stronger both physically and mentally and she looks terrific.

“It’s a nice starting point for her on a nice big track and whatever she does today she’ll improve on but she’s the class horse in the race and she’s certainly a chance.”
