EXCITING DEBUT WIN FROM BERMADEZ

Bermadez confirmed the big opinion Mike Moroney has of the son of Tavistock with a thumping win on debut at Geelong on Friday.

Despite drawing wide, Damien Oliver rode Bermadez (pictured) like he was the best horse in the race, allowing the four-year-old to stride forward and lead after 100m and that was the last his rivals saw of him.

Clear into the home straight Bermadez drew away without any urging, Oliver allowed the luxury of looking across to the infield screen to see how far clear he was before coasting home to score by over five lengths at the end of the 1250m.

Mike Moroney was suitably impressed.

“Thanks to everyone for being so patient but that was impressive - he’s had a couple of little issues and there was a lot of merit to the win today,” Moroney said.

“He looked as if he was having a good look around and not fully concentrating but once Ollie gave him a little shake-up he just changed legs and went away from them so it was all very impressive.

“He relaxes well and has developed into a magnificent looking horse - as long as we can keep him all together then I’m sure he can go on with it from here.”

In the race before Bermadez, Trail Blazer debuted with a flashing finish for third in his 1250m Maiden to indicate it should not be long before the son of Dundeel is winning.

“I thought he went terrific, from the gate he had to go back and was last on straightening,” Moroney said.

“Then when everything fanned wide Mark Zahra was forced to weave a path. I was really impressed with what he saw today and I think we will see him in some nice three-year-old races in the spring.”

Both Bermadez and Trail Blazer were purchased as yearlings by Paul Moroney and further evidence, as if any were needed, about the strength of our buying policy.

Bermadez sold for $280,000 at Karaka from the draft of Inglewood Stud while Trail Blazer made $120,000 at the Inglis Classic Sale from the draft of Torryburn Stud.
